How Pilot Training Works:

Pilot training generally begins with a private pilot certificate, which can be obtained in as little as 40 hours, however the national average is 50-60 hours of flight time. This certificate (often referred to as a "license") serves as the basis for all other certificates and ratings you will receive, whether for career, business, or recreational purposes.

About Private Pilot training -
In basic training, the following fundamentals of safe flying are covered:

The FAA Knowledge Test (more info) is administered by Falcon Aviation Academy in our designated testing center and consists of a computer-generated 60 question multiple choice exam. Practical Tests  are conducted by a FAA-designated examiner.  Upon satisfactory completion of the practical test, a private pilot certificate is immediately issued.

Designated Examiner
The Designated Examiner, also known as a DPE or Designated Pilot Examiner, is a civilan authorized to act in lieu of the FAA for the purposes of conducting Practical Tests and approving or denying an applicant for a pilot certificate. DPE's typically charge a fee ranging from $300-$500 dollars for this test which must be paid directly to the examiner.
Practical Test
The FAA Practical Test consists of two major elements; the "Oral" and the "Flight". Typically, both occur on the same day with a FAA Designated Examiner. Throughout this testing process, the examiner will thoroughly evaluate your knowledge and skills on all the required levels as recommened by the FAA publications. This test is a pass/fail test.
FAA Knowledge Test
The FAA Knowledge Test is one of the reqirements to obtain many different pilot certificates and ratings. It is often reffered to as a "written test" simply because at one point they were just that...hand written tests. Today, these tests are computerized and administered by one of many authorized testing centers nationwide. Approved testing centers carry the CATS or LaserGrade brand. Falcon Aviation Academy is an authorized CATS testing center and can administer your knowledge tests at our Newnan-Coweta Co. facilty (KCCO).
